Query Letter & Synopsis Editing

You want a query letter and synopsis that will make agents and publishers fall in love with your story. I know what agents and publishers are looking for, and I would love to help you increase your chances of getting a publishing deal for your novel.

Query Letter Editing

With good editing, your query letter can:

  1. Grab the agent or publisher’s attention
  2. Show them that you have a compelling story
  3. Convince them to read your synopsis

Synopsis Editing

With good editing, your synopsis can:

  1. Demonstrate a strong grasp of story structure
  2. Show agents and publishers your story is complete
  3. Convince them to read your opening pages

I provide free query editing for the novels I edit

My Query Editing Process

I edit queries in 3 stages, each focusing on a different type of feedback.

First, I send you a short PDF guide to help you write and/or prepare your querying materials.

Once you’re ready for editing, you send me the query letter and synopsis in one Word document. After each of my editing passes, you will have the opportunity to make revisions before returning the document for my next editing pass.

Stage 0: Preparation

I send you a PDF guide with a simple query-writing formula and a checklist to help you get the most out of the query editing process.

Stage 1: Content

The first stage of query editing is a developmental edit. I ensure that your query and synopsis give agents the information they need.

Stage 2: Flow

Next, we focus on line editing to make your words flow. I help you show off your writing talent by giving your words some extra polish.

Stage 3: Mechanics

Finally we add copyediting that focuses specifically on catching errors and all the little details that will convey quality and professionalism.

Is your manuscript ready for editing? I would love to talk with you about your plans to get traditionally published and help you decide what type of editing is the right fit for you and your story.

Query Editing Cost

If I have done a copyedit, developmental edit, or editorial assessment of your full manuscript, I will provide query letter and synopsis editing for free.

If your novel is ready for publishing and you want query editing as a standalone service, I charge a flat fee of $125 for just a query letter or $250 for both a query letter and synopsis. This includes developmental editing, line editing, and copyediting for a query letter of up to 500 words and a synopsis of up to 1,000 words, along with my Query Guidelines PDF.
