 A great blurb needs to:

  • Grab and hold the prospective reader’s attention
  • Show them how compelling your story is
  • And convince them that they’re going to love it

Blurb editing is an essential investment for self-publishers. And once you make that investment up front, it continues to pay off long term.

My Blurb Editing Process

I edit blurbs in 3 stages, each focusing on a different type of feedback.

First, I send you a short PDF guide to help you write and/or prepare your blurb for editing.

Once your blurb is ready, you send it to me in a Word document. (If you’re getting the free complementary blurb edit, include your author bio as well in the same document.)

After each of my editing passes, you will have the opportunity to make revisions before returning the document for my next round of edits.

Stage 0: Preparation

I send you a two-page PDF guide with a simple blurb-writing formula and a checklist to help you get the most out of blurb editing.

Stage 1: Content

The first stage of blurb editing is a developmental edit. I ensure that your blurb has everything it needs to sell your book to your target audience.

Stage 2: Flow

Next, we focus on line editing to make your words flow. I help you improve phrasing and word choice to give your words extra polish.

Stage 3: Mechanics

Finally we add copyediting that focuses specifically on catching errors and all the little details that will convey quality and professionalism.

Is your manuscript ready for editing? I would love to talk with you about your plans to self-publish and help you decide what type of editing is the right fit for you and your story.

Blurb Editing Cost

If I have done a copyedit, developmental edit, or editorial assessment of your full manuscript, I will provide blurb editing for free (along with free keyword research).

If your novel is ready for publishing and you want blurb editing as a standalone service, I charge a flat fee of $125. This includes developmental editing, line editing, and copyediting for one blurb of up to 250 words, along with my Blurb-Writing Guidelines PDF.
